About

Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild

Formed in 1981, the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Springfield, Missouri, and the greater Ozarks surrounding areas focused on the love of quilting lasting friendships, community outreach and education. With over 275 members, our OPQG consists of quilters with a wide variety of skill levels, from beginner to the most experienced, and includes people of all ages covering a wide variety of sewing interests and methods.
The OPQG mission is to promote the love of quilting through lasting friendships, community outreach and education. OPQG was formed to promote fellowship between people interested in quilting and quilting-related arts. We encourage participation in all programs and events, do not discriminate in any way, and work to educate groups and individuals about the art and enjoyment of quilting while serving our local community.
OPQG has no paid staff, only volunteers. Funds raised by the guild cover the cost of our facility (rent/utilities/insurance), educational programs, the OPQG Library, and materials to create and donate over 1,500 quilts each to local relief organizations. For example, our Quilts of Valor program creates patriotic quilts and has several ceremonies each year to present them to local veterans while honoring and celebrating their service.
Another program we’re very proud of is our baby quilts initiative for the local chapter of Newborns In Need. Newborns In Need is another all-volunteer nonprofit organization that started in our area and now as 50+ chapters nationwide. When a child is born into a needy family, they may only have a shirt and diaper to leave the hospital. Each year we donate approximately 500 baby quilts to this worthwhile cause. When babies arrive home, if there is a home, there may not even be a warm blanket or quilt to wrap them. Learn more about Newborns In Need at NewbornsInNeedSpringfield.org.

We also support Harmony House, a local family violence shelter that provides shelter, advocacy and education to survivors of domestic violence and promotes the principle that all individuals have the right to a life free of abuse. We supply them with quilts, and at each guild meeting collect monetary donations from our members to purchase needed personal hygiene items for the mothers and their children who are being sheltered there.

Other initiatives, to name a few include baby, and youth quilts for our local Ronald McDonald House, lap quilts for nursing home residents, 300-500 small quilts are made each Christmas and distributed by Crosslines, a service of the Council of Churches of the Ozarks. Crosslines collects toys for local underprivileged children and when they receive a doll or plush toy, one of our custom doll-size quilts arrives with it. Learn more about Crosslines at CCOzarks.org/Crosslines.
Our large, accessible facility is located in the Village Shopping Center on South Campbell Ave., in Springfield. The shopping center includes expansive parking which has enabled the Guild to provide:
