Golden Thimble Award

Annual award for outstanding participation

The Golden Thimble Award is an annual award voted on by the membership and presented by the guild to recognize a member who has provided extraordinary service during the preceding fiscal year. Two guild members tied for the most nominations, so we are proud to have two honorees!

Our 2025 Golden Thimble Award recipients are Kathy Carr and Peggy Reichelderfer!

Kathy Carr

Kathy said, “Quilting runs in the family; I’m carrying on a tradition inspired by my grandma and mother, who were both avid quilters. I grew up with quilting, and even managed to create several while raising three children. When our youngest daughter left for college, I became infatuated with scrappy
quilts, and never looked back.

I became a member of the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild in 2011. Retirement in 2018 gave me more time to join Community Quilts, Patriotic Piecemakers, (Quilts of Valor) and Sew Scrappy groups. These groups keep me busy and engaged, and I love every minute of it. Each quilt I make is a personal challenge, whether it comes from a pattern or a picture I find on Pinterest. A few are gifted to friends and family for special occasions, but most are donated. Supporting our local community with charity quilts and our guild with quilts to sell is very rewarding. My hope to continue to enjoy this wonderful and satisfying hobby for many years to come.”

Peggy said, “I am honored and humbled to receive the Golden Thimble Award. My quilting journey began when my friend and former colleague, Jan, encouraged me to sign up for a block-of-the-month class with her. I’ll never forget the pride I felt after completing that very first block — I was so excited that I drove straight to work to show her!

After my husband and I moved to Marshfield in 2019, I joined the guild. After the pandemic, I became more actively involved in the guild and found a welcoming and inspiring community. I’ve especially enjoyed participating in Community Quilts workdays and take pride in the philanthropic work we accomplish together. I’ve learned so much from being a member of this guild and am truly grateful for the friendships, creativity, and purpose it has brought into my life. Thank you for this recognition. I will continue to do my best in support of this dynamic guild.”
