Our OPQG library includes four titles from author Kaffe Fassett. Make plans to check them out at the next guild meeting!

Born in San Francisco, Kaffe Fassett settled in England in 1964 and worked as an artist. On a trip to Scotland, he stumbled on a collection of colored yarns. A few months later, he was hooked (no put intended) and proceeded to knit and stitch himself a career. In 1996, Fassett was asked by the charity Oxfam to visit villages in India to advise on designs that could be marketed in the West. After a meeting with close friend and quilter, Liza Prior Lucy, he was urged to do a book on patchwork quilting. This book was the beginning of a new adventure of designing fabric collections and writing quilting books.

OPQG members are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone to try some of Kaffe Fassett’s bold fabric collections and patterns.

The OPQG Library has the following Kaffe Fassett books:

Museum Quilts

Drawing inspiration from the textile treasures of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London’s world-famous decorative arts museum, Fassett has created 23 gorgeous new patchwork designs. The patchworks fall into three categories. First, Utility Quilts, employing large simple patch shapes cut from charming prints. Second, Traditional Pieces follow, encompassing popular heritage quilt formats reborn here in fresh, modern interpretations. And finally, the irresistible Showpiece Quilts, incorporating applique to create breathtaking showstoppers.

Passionate Patchwork

Renowned decorative artist Kaffe Fassett, known for his brilliant color palettes and innovative designs, incorporated his stunning patterns into this collection of breathtaking patchwork quilt designs. Twenty new patchwork designs include full-size quilts, tablecloths, cushion covers, and baby quilts. They are all in the saturated color schemes characteristic of his work.

Simple Shapes, Spectacular Quilts

This book is dedicated to all of the quilters worldwide who ask, “Where do you get your ideas?”  Fassett’s ambition in this book is to draw attention to the basic shapes we cut for quilts as they appear in our surroundings. Quilts are so exciting…your eyes can immediately catch the bare bones of a quilt’s geometry even though it is buzzing with intertwining floral patterns. Once you start on this quest for geometric shapes, every stroll or ride can be full of discoveries. Fassett hopes this book will help you start on your own stimulating search and design spree.

Kaffe Fassett’s Quilts in the Sun

Quilters of all skill levels will love this new Rowan collection of 20 original quilt designs by Kaffe Fassett and other featured quilt designers. The quilts showcase the Kaffe Fassett collection of fabrics with modern and striking designs. Inspired by Portugal’s beautiful landscape and culture, the quilts are shown against the background of the fabulous glazed tiles and unique architecture of Santa Catonne Castle and the tiled blue and white walls of Porto and Lisbon, as seen in the Framed Jar and Delft Star quilts. In this book, selected quilts are shown with varied color palettes to demonstrate the impact of color on the quilt design and to encourage quilters to try out new combinations.
