MJ Kinman’s passion lies in creating stunning quilts inspired by the beauty of gemstones. Using freezer paper—a versatile tool that adheres to fabric when ironed—MJ transforms inspiration into exquisite, intricate designs that have captivated audiences worldwide.

Her quilts have been exhibited at prestigious venues, including the National Quilt Museum, the International Quilt Museum, the New England Quilt Museum, the Quilt Festival in Houston, TX, Quilt Week in Paducah, KY, and the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK. Most recently, her piece “Torch Song” was showcased at the Art Quilt Elements 2024 Biennial in Wayne, PA, earning her the Cindy Friedman Master Award for Excellence.

MJ’s work is included in collections ranging from Maker’s Mark Distillery to the National and International Quilt Museums, as well as private collections. Her Birthstone Series patterns celebrate traditional birthstone gems, while the Diamond Divas Series offers large, artistic quilts that are easily customizable for makers of all levels.

In 2020, MJ released her first book, Gemstone Quilts, through CampT Publishing, sharing her innovative techniques and designs with quilters everywhere.
