Jennifer Todd of The Quilted Cow generously donated 1,000 yards of first-quality quilting fabric to our community quilts initiative! The donation, worth over $13,000, was presented on November 1, 2022, (pictured) to Karen Stanley, Community Quilts c0-chair; Paula Johnson, Patriotic Piecemakers group chair and board vice chair; Barbara Harmon, board member at large and Yevonne Shaffer, our board president.
Additionally, The Quilted Cow was a Silver show sponsor during our fall ’22 OPQG Show. On Saturday morning, the last day of the show, Jennifer and her “night crew” team hosted a “Party in Your PJs” that raised $1,020 for our Community Quilts group. Those funds allowed us to buy a full pallet (16 rolls) of top-quality batting that will be used by our members when making quilts for community distribution. During the party, Jennifer not only announced the 1,000-yard fabric donation, but she also shared that our guild will be receiving an additional $50,000 of fabric each year.
Thankful, grateful, amazed, blown away, dazzled, humbled (plus every other adjective in the thesaurus) doesn’t begin to express the overwhelming appreciation we have for Jennifer and her team at The Quilted Cow. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Annually, OPQG members make and give away 1,000 to 1,500 quilted items each year to many area agencies, including but not limited to Mercy Hospital, Cox Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Ambassadors for Children, Child Advocacy Center, Harmony House, Newborns in Need, Empower Abilities, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Ashley House, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Springfield Police Department, Christian County Family Crisis Center and many others.
The fabric donated will also be used to make Quilts of Valor by our Patriotic Piecemakers group, which hosts ceremonies to present quilts to local veterans several times each year. All patriotic quilts made by OPQG members must meet specific QOV guidelines for presentation to combat veterans.
