Programs by Month 2022

January 25, 2022: The Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild is anticipating a great 2022 filled with informative AND fun guild meetings and new programs. We will begin by having Theresa Gallup provide a wonderful program at both the day and night meetings.

Theresa states on her website that the kimono is more than just a robe. It has become a symbol of Japanese life and culture. Usually made with great craftsmanship from highly decorated and prized fabrics, they are becoming more scarce and valuable as time passes.

Theresa combines highly decorative kimono highlights with silk and other fine fabrics to craft elegant and one-of-a-kind apparel and fashion accessories. Her work has been featured in art festivals, boutiques, galleries and even the Smithsonian Gift Shops. The Kansas City Regional Festival is just one of many venues where Theresa has shared her work with quilting enthusiasts.  For more detailed information about Theresa and her beautiful creations go to her website at kimonodesigns.com and be sure to attend our January programs.

February 22, 2022: Kathryn Kelly, founder of Refresh Organizing company in Springfield, MO. will be our featured speaker.  She specializes in the KonMari Method of organizing spaces that are proper and sustainable in order to create an orderly and efficient environment.  On her website, Kelly states that “she firmly believes our homes should be a personal sanctuary: an antidote to stress, not the cause of it.”  Her program at the February meeting will focus on the special types of organization that will help make your sewing space decluttered and peaceful so that you can fully enjoy your creative endeavors.

March meeting will not be held due to our role as supporting guild at the AQS show to be held March 23 through March 26, 2022, in Branson, Mo. OPQG members will be working at the show beginning on Monday, March 21 by helping to hang all the quilts exhibited in this extraordinary show. OPQG members will continue to fill a number of volunteer positions throughout the Branson AQS show. It will be great practice for our own guild’s September 2022 show at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E*Plex in Springfield, Mo.

April 26, 2022: Our program will feature an array of quilts that are classified as modern. The OPQG Modern Quilts small group will share their knowledge and creativity with the guild during this special program.  The Modern Quilt program will be presented at both the day and evening meetings.

May 24, 2022: The OPQG Guild “Sew Scrappy” small group will present the morning and evening programs. Come enjoy a trunk show and information shared by members of this small group as they talk about the wide variety of quilts that “fit in” to the scrap quilts category. Their presentation might easily encourage many guild members to enter our scrap quilt category for the OPQG 2022 quilt show this fall. This show category is just one of many lasting legacies left by our dear guild member, Nancy Yeomans, who loved making quilts out of scraps on her vintage machines.

June 28, 2022: The 2022 Quilt Show committee will share a wealth of information regarding what will be happening at our September Quilt show.  If you are wondering about all the new and exciting changes to take place at our future show, be sure and attend either the morning or evening meeting so that you have all the latest important details necessary to make our 2022 show the best show ever! Better yet, join one of the 2022 quilt show teams now (if you haven’t already) and you will have the inside track on the latest and greatest OPQG quilt show to be held this September!

July 26, 2022: We are looking forward to welcoming Susan Cleveland as our featured speaker in July. She will present her Eclectic Quilt Pageant at both the day and evening meetings.  We are so fortunate to have been able to reschedule her visit with us for this year.

July 27, 2022: Susan Cleveland will teach a full-day workshop entitled “Piping Hot Curves.” The workshop will be full of tips, tricks and important skill-building strategies for all enthusiastic quilting students. Be sure to sign up for this workshop without delay. Click HERE for complete details.

August 23, 2022: Callie Hargis, certified Picture Piecing Teacher, will be displaying quilts that feature this unique method for developing landscape quilts and other beautiful creations. Callie will be speaking and providing a trunk show at both the morning and evening meetings.

August 24, 2022: Callie will provide a full-day workshop on the paper piecing technique.  As stated on Callie’s Facebook page, “It looks like paper piecing but it’s not! Learn how to make these beautiful landscape quilts designed by international fiber artist, quilter and designer Cynthia England. Learn Cynthia’s Unique Picture Piecing technique, tips and tricks from her Certified teacher, Callie Hargiss.” After you have learned the technique, perhaps you will eventually decide to design your own landscape quilts using the “picture piecing” method.

No meeting in September due to the 2022 Quilt Show.

October 25, 2022: The Patriotic Piecemakers” of OPQG has graciously agreed to provide a program for our guild at both the day and evening meetings. This small group is responsible for the wonderful presentation of quilts as we honor veterans who have served our country.

No meeting in November due to Thanksgiving.

December’s meeting will most likely be a holiday get-together.
