Old-Fashioned Bed Turning

See Quilts of all Ages!

Old-Fashioned Bed Turning

If you love quilts, don’t miss the old-fashioned-style bed-turning presentations scheduled for all three days of the quilt show!

These in-show presentations are in the east lecture hall. The schedule will be Thursday & Friday 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM and Saturday 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Bed-turning is a way to display quilts while telling their story.

Bed turnings originated long ago as a social event.  A married woman might hold a Bed Turning. Her quilts would be piled on top of each other on a bed. The hostess would then turn back each quilt, one by one, as she talked about each quilt. Refreshments would then be served.

The OPQG Quilt Show will have our traditional Antique Bed Turning along with a new category.  In keeping with the theme of the 2024 Quilt Show—Quilting Past, Present, Future—we will have Bed Turnings of the Future.

In 50 years, the quilts we make in the present will be the antique quilts of the future. Our new Bed Turning category will consist of these “future” quilts. If you have made a quilt within the last five years that you are not entering in the OPQG Show, you could enter it in our new Bed Turning of the Future to share its special story.

For our traditional Antique Bed Turning, quilts must be 50 years old or older.

Bed Turnings are scheduled for all three days of the OPQG Show.

We will have three Antique Bed Turnings and two Bed Turnings of the Future. The Bed Turnings are open to OPQG members AND non-members. The deadline to enter a quilt in the Bed Turnings is August 15, 2024. A link to the entry form is below.
