A Bed Turning is a way to display quilts while telling their stories. It originated as a social event long ago. A married woman might hold a Bed Turning in her home with family members and friends. Her quilts would be piled on top of each other on a bed. The hostess would then turn back each quilt, one by one, as she talked about each quilt. Refreshments would then be served.
Our OPQG 2026 Quilt Show will feature two Bed Turning categories: our traditional Antique Bed Turning and Antique Quilts of the Future. In 50 years, the quilts we make in the present will be the antique quilts of the future. If you have a quilt made within the last five years that you are not entering in the Quilt Show, please consider entering it in the Antique Quilts of the Future Bed Turning to share its special story. For our traditional Antique Bed Turning, quilts must be 50 years old (or older).
Bed Turning entries are open to OPQG members and non-members. There is no fee. The deadline to enter a quilt or quilts in the Bed Turning is March 24, 2026. A link to the entry form is below.
