Patriotic Piecemakers Host Event

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild to host Quilts of Valor presentation

SPRINGFIELD, MO, USA—The Patriotic Piecemakers of Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild will be hosting a Quilts of Valor event to provide local veterans with a hand-made quilt to say “thank you” for all they unselfishly gave. The event will take place at the OPQG facility located at 2738 S. Campbell Ave., Springfield, Mo., 65807, on Sunday, July 11, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Twenty-four veterans from the Korean, Vietnam and Cold Wars, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom will be presented a patriotic-themed quilt during the event. One veteran, from World War II, is unable to attend and will receive his quilt during a private ceremony.

“We’ve been creating custom, hand-made quilts for area veterans for many years and are honored for the opportunity to welcome area veterans and their families to our guild to receive their quilt,” said Paula Johnson, Patriotic Piecemakers group leader.

The Patriotic Piecemakers group hosts ceremonies to present quilts to local veterans several times each year. While all patriotic quilts made by OPQG members are donated, the Quilts of Valor donation quilts must meet specific QOV Foundation guidelines for presentation to combat veterans. These guidelines come from both the QOV national organization and the OPQG Patriotic Piecemakers committee.

  • Each quilt is approximately 62” x 72”
  • Only 100% cotton fabric, thread and batting is used for a Quilt of Valor quilt. Exposure to chemical agents while in service causes some veterans extreme sensitivity to polyester and other synthetics which is why only 100% cotton materials are used during the quilt-making process.
  • Quilts resembling or replicating the American flag are not permitted. Fabrics with American flag motifs printed on them are permitted.
  • Quilts may not have political or religious-themed fabrics or motifs.

Members of American Legion Post 1214 will be in attendance to assist veterans to and from the stage, as needed when names are called and quilts are presented. American Legion Post 1214 provides ongoing support to the OPQG Patriotic Piecemakers with fabric, other project materials and financial support. A Trivia Night and silent auction fundraiser for the Patriotic Piecemakers will be held by American Legion Post 1214 on August 5, 2021.
